Notice of Commencement of Operations

A new "Macromolecular Crystallography End Station" is being installed at BL09U and is scheduled to begin operations soon. This end station is primarily designed for the structural analysis of biomacromolecules such as proteins, which are key drug discovery targets, as well as biomaterials. It aims to strongly support research in the life sciences field.

The utilization of this end station is available as a mail-in measurement service through the Advanced Research Center for Biomacromolecular Structure (ARCBS) at Tohoku University. For details, please refer to their website.

Features of the End Station

This end station was developed in collaboration with the International Center for Synchrotron Radiation Innovation Smart (SRIS) at Tohoku University, the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM), and SPring-8, with support from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) under the Basis for Supporting Innovative Drug Discovery and Life Science Research (BINDS) program.

High-throughput Data Measurement
Enables efficient measurement of a large number of samples, accelerating drug discovery research and other studies.
High-resolution Structural Analysis
Contributes to the elucidation of protein functions based on precise three-dimensional structural information.
Support for Micro-crystals
Aims to perform structural analysis on tiny crystals that were previously difficult to measure.
Dynamic Observation of Biomacromolecules
Designed with the future goal of capturing proteins and other molecules in action in real-time (dynamics observation).
By providing a robust research environment for life sciences and drug discovery at NanoTerasu, we look forward to a significant expansion of utilization and the generation of many research results by our coalition members.
